2007 is looking to be an exciting year for the TurningWheels team and its supporters! Here is a list of events and fundraising activities that will be taking place this year!
December 15th 2007 - Are you ready to build some bikes! It’s that magical time of the year and Bike Build 2007 is upon us! TurningWheels for Kids is looking for friendly bicycle happy volunteer elves to help us assemble over 1700 bicycles in one day on Saturday, December 15th at the San Jose Convention Center starting at 8am and going until we are done! (Last year it only took 4 hours!) If you would like to sign up this year as an individual or if you would like to register as a team and have designated space for your group at the build, online registration opens on October 15th. All kind of jobs are available if you have limited bike building experience. We are only taking sign ups via our online forms this year so please check back in with us on the 15th. Space is limited so be sure to sign up early! We just can’t wait to see all of you at the South Hall this year!
December 16th 2007 - TurningWheels For Kids will be traveling and reaching out to the greater community. Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, devastated by Katrina, is still in the throes of rebuilding and there is an eerie sound heard throughout the community – silence! There are no squeals of laughter, no children outside playing! In fact, according to a recent televised Oprah show, 60% of the children in this area have been diagnosed as clinically depressed. Why, you ask? Their toys and bikes are gone and parents are so consumed with the expenses of shelter and necessities, there is no money for something so frivolous as a bike. But to a child, it is essential! Help us help the children! While it is always our goal to take care of our own children, and we will be building 1600 bikes for Santa Clara County children this year, this small number of 100 bikes will certainly make a difference for this group of children in two local community churches there!
Your donation of $55 will send a brand new sparkly bike and helmet to Bay St Louis and put that smile back on their face! And may I just add, the bikes we are building there are spectacular! Raleigh USA has come through with some superdeduper bikes at absolute ROCK bottom pricing! If you need a bike for a gift this year, please consider a Raleigh or Diamondback bike (same company)! Let’s support those that are supporting us! Just hit the donation button or send your check today to 2400 Moorpark Avenue, Ste 207, San Jose, Ca 95128. Please mark your check for Katrina in the memo line.
Thanks for being a special kind of person – one that cares about others!

This fall, 2006 - Join us in our campaign ~ A Bike for a Buck. How many children could TurningWheels For Kids put on a bike if every person in San Jose would give ONLY one dollar to this endeavor? The implications are enormous. Every disabled child, every child with weight issues, every child who just wants the opportunity to own and ride a bike - it could happen and so much more. It only takes a very small commitment from each individual. Be a part of the community ensuring the happiness of all our children especially those who are challenged each day living with great uncertainty. Tell all your friends, tell them to tell their friends and let’s start the momentum - a grassroots groundswell to provide for the children in our community. Let’s all dream together and make it happen. Stay tuned for more information!
