John O'Brien

I became a TurningWheels Board Member www.turningwheelsforkids.org in 2005 and the 450 bike build was my first “Big Bike Build.” Since then, I’ve helped at events, donated to members and associates who engaged in fundraisers for TWFK, and worked diligently as a Board Member. Last year, as I welcomed and waved safe ride to the TWFK Death Ride Team at the bottom of the Third Pass, I thought, “I should do more, I could do more.”

This year I’m doing more! DEATH RIDE, HERE I COME! Well, maybe that should have been in small caps. It took a lot of encouragement from my fellow Board members to convince me that, having never ridden seriously, I could do the Death Ride. Now seven months into training I think I have a shot.

The physical and mental efforts have been significant but when I think and consider the plight of the children that TWFK services I’m invigorated to keep on peddling. Having seen these children close up and personal I realize how the bikes enrich otherwise distressed lives. Children do not wish themselves to be poverty stricken or obese but life circumstance places them in these situations. I have witnessed the changes that the gift a bicycle can and does make in the lives of these children. I and TWFK need your help to change a cycle of hopelessness into a cycle of caring!

It’s going to be tough, but I know with your encouragement and assistance I can make my goal of raising $5,000 in donations. Nothing motivates like love and a challenge! I love the mission of TWFK and I love a challenge and if nothing else, the Death Ride is that.

I ask for your assistance in reaching my goal for TWFK. Be it by a donation or a kind word of encouragement or both, please help me support this cause.

Ride Safe and Share the Road!!!
